How We Test Golf Gloves
When it comes to testing golf gloves, we should say that our process is similar to every other golf equipment review we do, manufacturers can’t pay for good reviews, we tell it what we think.
We strive to test and review a product as thoroughly as possible, which means we’ve used it multiple times under different conditions, as this often gives us great insight into durability, fit, quality, and more.
We should say that everyone on the Golf Monthly team is a golfer of all levels, which we feel lends a quality of honesty and integrity to the reviews we publish. For more information on how Golf Monthly tests its products, click here.
what to look for in golf gloves
You might think that a golf glove is less important than other gear, but it is, after all, the only part of your body that remains connected to the club throughout your swing. So, what are the things to consider when thinking about buying a new golf glove? Below are some factors and suggestions to consider.
which hand? – For starters out there, right-handed golfers will often wear a golf glove over their left hand. This is because the left hand is the dominant hand in the swing, provided the player has a traditional grip. Left-handed golfers will usually wear a glove over their right hand.

type – First, know what type of glove you want. You’re probably looking for a quality leather model that’s quite different from synthetic or even wet-weather models. They do different things and more importantly feel different, so think about how you like to feel when you put on your golf glove and corresponding socks.
Material – Materials are also important. The top quality leather fit is designed to feel soft while giving you good grip throughout your swing. They are essentially designed to act like a second skin. Some gloves also have synthetic components designed to provide more stretch, especially at the knuckles. These synthetic gloves may also be more durable than leather designs. In the end, wet weather gloves are more about protection than feel. Most all-weather models have materials that provide better grip when wetter, so if you play in a rainy area, be sure to consider a model designed to handle rain.
fit – We can hear you asking how the glove should fit? A golf glove should then feel like a second skin, with no excess material on the palm or at the end of the fingers. Make sure the palm fits snugly with no loose material at the end of the fingers. But you also don’t want the glove to be so tight that it feels like it’s cutting off the blood supply. You should be able to stretch your fingers and punch the ball without pulling or overstretching the glove.
common problem
Are Golf Gloves Necessary?
When on the course, you don’t need to wear golf gloves. However, it is highly recommended that you wear one to maximize your game. They give you more grip than not wearing them, so you can shoot with more confidence.
Should Golf Gloves Be Loose or Tight?
A well-fitting pair of golf gloves should fit like a second skin. That means it’s tight on the palm and fingers, with no loose material. There should also be no excess material on the top of your fingers, if there is, you may need to go down a size.
